The beautiful city of Quito was declared a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1978 and has the best preserved colonial city center of Latin America. A day in Quito is like taking a walk back in time. We walk in the narrow street of Calle La Ronda, rich with history, culture, and music, with arms wide open towards travelers. The history of this street dates back to the 1400s, and rumors say that the Incas used the same path. The narrow houses with balconies that overlook the street are now beautifully renovated. They once housed travelers on their own personal journeys. The Spanish influence is still seen today.
Your visit to Quito will also include the beautiful squares of Quito’s colonial center, the neo-Gothic Basilica del Voto Nacional, San Francisco Plaza, Plaza Grande or main square. We will enter the magnificent church of the Society of Jesus of Quito, locally known as La Compañia, a gem of the Ibero-American baroque, and a masterpiece made by hand. We also get a birds-eye view of the city from Panecillo hill. A complement to the day is visiting the Monument to the equator and standing in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at the same time. All this combines to a great way to spend the day in this magical city.
